Stunning Cross-Sea Bridge Lighting Design!
At EXC Lighting, we believe that great design doesn’t end with the structure itself—it continues through its illumination. Our latest project involves the remarkable Ocean Flower Island Cross-Sea Bridge in Hainan, a vital link that has been transformed into a glowing work of art by night.
Spanning the waters near one of China’s most iconic man-made islands, the bridge draws inspiration from the fluid motion of waves and the elegance of marine forms. The lighting design complements the architectural structure seamlessly, creating a luminous ribbon that stretches across the sea. When night falls, the entire bridge radiates in shades of deep blue and crisp white, echoing the tranquility and depth of the surrounding ocean.
Using EXC’s advanced LED technology, the bridge is illuminated in rich marine tones that not only enhance its aesthetic appeal but also improve nighttime visibility for drivers and pedestrians. With precise beam control and balanced color blending, the lighting system offers a glare-free, visually comfortable experience while maintaining a high level of brightness and contrast.
Hundreds of luminaires were deployed throughout the project, including high-brightness RGBW floodlights, pixel-controlled dot lights, and linear fixtures. These were strategically placed along the main towers, suspension cables, bridge deck edges, and railings. The system supports dynamic programming and can adapt to different lighting themes based on holidays, seasons, or time of day. Every lighting point is individually controllable, enabling synchronized effects and smooth transitions that interact beautifully with the surrounding environment.
The lighting system is managed by an intelligent central control platform that allows for remote operation, status monitoring, and automated scheduling. While delivering visually striking effects, energy efficiency and environmental protection were core priorities. All light sources use high-efficiency LEDs and low-power drivers, reducing energy consumption significantly and supporting long-term sustainability.
In addition, marine-grade materials and anti-corrosion enclosures were used to ensure the durability and performance of the luminaires in the island’s coastal climate. These considerations help maintain consistent lighting quality even under challenging environmental conditions.
Completed in 2023, the Ocean Flower Island Cross-Sea Bridge now stands not only as a symbol of regional infrastructure progress but also as a cultural landmark that celebrates the harmony between technology, design, and nature. At night, the bridge becomes a poetic statement that links not just the shores, but also light, innovation, and inspiration.
